Hi!

I was bored today so I decided I'd draw John Preston :D

I didn't have much luck with the drawing part, so I decided I would trace over a photograph and use it as a guide.

This is the image I decided to use, from the lovely movie stills section:
http://www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/Equilibrium_Still0383-Preston.jpg

I then chose all the colours, and coloured over the photograph bit by bit. I blended all the colours together with the smudge brush. I decided to pick colours that were really bright, to show he is "alive" and feeling (on a side note, until watching the DVD commentary with Kurt Wimmer, I had never noticed in the scene where they take Viviana away, that she was colourful and Preston was not).

So anyway, here it is!

I do think his eyes are sort of dead feeling, where I want them to be bursting with life, but I just can't figure out how to fix it!

I am overall quite pleased, but I wish I didn't have to trace over a source image to get here!

This is pretty good, nice shading there :)

I think the eyes being dead could be attributed to the fact that he's in Cleric mode there, even the source image to me doesn't have much life or feeling in those eyes, they're the eyes of a man who shows by the set of his face, he means business.

If they had a little more light, perhaps a tiny bit of highlighting to them then they'd probably seem more alive.

All in all I like it :)

Aw I'm glad you like it, and thanks for taking the time to respond to me :) I think I am going to do another, maybe in a more action-y pose.... :) It's the only way I can deal with my Equilibrium-itis!

*grins wolfishly*

Being more an author than an artist I'll say, wow, nicely done. I know a few things about art though since I'm married to an illustrator.
