sure, you can use them on the site.

Yeah, as I mentioned on the IMDB board, I first heard about this while it was still in production, but it didn't come anywhere near SW missouri. For some reason, I thought about it last week, went to the video store, and they had a single copy of it. And then I picked it up today at Best Buy since I was off work.

Oh, I also forgot to mention I made a gratuitously long animated .gif file of the nethers battle which I'm using for my desktop.

I have it looped, so it's constantly running for when I minimize my windows.

Yes, I try to stay away from ranting about this subject. I was one of the luck few who got to see it in the theater in December. It really is unfortunate that more could not have had this opportunity because the theater experience is far superior. I place it up there with what I experienced with Star Wars & Raiders as to how it effected me on the big screen.

Hey, there is a group of guys from here who are working on just such a project. (Note the closed "Project EQ" Board) I can't remember off hand if they are using MP2 though.

I'm not sure if they could use your help or not but you can find their site & forum here...

Those are DAMN COOL .gifs, corinthian!

Could you make one of the beginning action scene, when preston first performs Gun Kata in that very dark room? The positions are soooo coooooool!

...Thanks in advance! ;)

Cool Gifs man!

And Trent!.... You missed an opportunity to plug your MP2 Equilibrium mod! Has it slipped your mind already? ;D

Looks like I've just done it then hey? ;) (the plug I mean)

I have got a pretty nify idea for an Equilibrium mod myself, and I'm very tempted to try & drum up some support to get it off the ground. Do you know how to mod, corinthian?

I second that question. When I made mine, I did it all manually...took individual screen shots, cropped the widescreen black bars, resized them to the exact same sizes and manually inserted them into a MS gif creating program. I have one with over 200 screen shots and it took like 6 hours to make. :P There's got to be an easier way. :)

I use FRAPS to capture the video at 640x480 and 10 frames per second. FRAPS is great for recording video on the fly - from video games you are playing to something like these DVD clips. The only thing to be aware of is that it has to save the .avi files uncompressed, so the files are large. The 35 seconds between 'Careful Preston...' and "Wait!" is 159 megs, for example.

From there, you can go right into a program to decompile the frames and create the .gif. The all-in-one that I am currently using is Animation Shop 3 from JASC (the makers of paint shop pro). You can download it from jasc.com for a 30 day trial. I'm currently on day 18 of it, and it's looking like it is easily worth the $40 USD price.

This lets you do things like insert scene transitions, picture effects, etc. You just drag and drop your .avi file in and it lists out all of the frames for your inspection. Deleting/inserting is really easy.

If you don't want to pay the $40, there are some free programs you can get as well. These are the ones I was using prior to downloading Animation Shop 3 - like you, I was thinking, there's gotta be an easier way.

Not that using these next programs is hard, but it sure felt like there were a lot of extra steps - the price you "pay" for shareware.

Again, FRAPS to capture (it is free, btw). You can then decompile the .avi using the OSS suite of programs - One Stop Soft. It includes converters, extractors, etc. It will let you decompile a movie into images in the format you choose - bitmap, gif, jpeg, etc - and dump them in their own folder. You can also specify how many frames you want it to generate - 10% of the movie, 25%, etc. The higher the %, the more frames you get, and the better the quality. I recommend saving them as .jpgs so you can use the next program:

From there, you can use a program called Animator 9 which is a program that can either create a java script to simulate an animated .gif (it saves the frams as a really long image of all your frames, like a strip of film, and uses that to "play" it on a web page) or let you manually "stitch" your frames together. This can be a bit tedious, as you cannot drag and drop. You highlight the next frame you want and hit 'add'. You specify how big you want the frames to be and the level of quality, and then you hit 'make' and that's that.

Both animator 9 and OSS are available for free download from zdnet.com.

Once you have the clip you want, it takes about 20 minutes using OSS/Animator9. It takes about 10 minutes using AS3 - and I think the quality is better.

I haven't done any mods for 3d games. For Max Payne, I'd think, 'hey, this would be a cool idea to use in a mod' and then I'd see it was already done at MPHQ or somewhere else. So I just enjoyed the work of others and made a lot of movie clips :P

I'm just hoping that Kenneth Yeung continues with a Kung Fu for MP2 - if you are playing MP2, did you happen to catch the poster in Mona's room?

There was a mod for Diablo I: Hellfire called Retribution that I contributed a lot of work on, so you can see it's been awhile.

Here's one that isn't too large:

And here's one that I thought was cool, and since it translated so well, I made it into the more traditional avatar size.

I'm right up against the wall for my storage space, so I'll have to wait to see what JenGe adds on her next update before I can get anymore posted.

I'm still taking requests, though. I will just need to wait to post them or will have to email them to you.

Yep, I use FRAPS as well. I capture at 25fps because I like smooth looking video when I'm editing in Premier. Did you manage to take a look at the vid I did in the Gun Kata thread?

i would also like to see a gif of the part near the end of the movie (at about 1 hour 33 mins, 36 seconds) that the camera is under preston while he has his hands crossed, firing off his guns while turning like a turret :D

and also the part when he reloads his guns through those gadgets under his sleeve!

Those are awesome, corinthian.

Have you ever used a program called VirtualDubMod? It's what I use to get specific scenes from .avi files and copy/paste them over to Animation Shop...that's what I usually use to make animated avatars. Really simple steps.

I use a program called Virtual Dub by Avery Lee - not sure if that is what you are referring to - I wasn't aware it would also be known as ...Mod. I use Virtual Dub to add compression to .avi files, then I'll use Stoik to convert them to .wmv to reduce their size.

Yeah, that's really cool. Those are the kinds of movies I make as well. It's the director in me, but I love setting up scenes using various camera angles. The MP developer keys rock.

I was playing GTA:VC over the summer, and I still have a couple of gigs of uncompressed clips waiting for inspiration. I'm planning a montage of scenes with Candy on the back of the motorcycle to the music of "Fell In Love With a Girl" by the White Stripes.

I have Adobe at my work computer, but at home I tend to be a cheapskate. I'm sort of leaning towards getting PS Elements, but I can't commit ::)

Yeah me too. Ive always loved movie trailers & making my own trailers lets me combine all the things I love - music, movies, games & editing.

I am also dangerously close to completing my full length Equilibrium Music Video - just needs some minor tweakage of the sequences & a place to live (hosting).
