Welcome Mr. Rational. I started a thread just for you... Personally I wish more people in opposition to the film would post their intelligent, logical disputes. I love a good debate. Please come & discuss it with us!! |

Quote:Name: Equilibrium is for stupid people Email: equilibrium_sucks_beyond_belief@hotmail.com Date: Mon Jun 06 12:22:52 EDT 2005 Equilibrium sucks. Here's why: Not a single original idea.Book-burning,gee anyone seen Fahrenheit 451? Drugs against feelings,er THX 1138 already covered that, workers going upstairs like lemmings, Metropolis(1927) anyone?, clothes (ripped of the matrix),Orwell\'s 1984 too.Hell, it\'s ripped ideas out of virtually every sci-fi movie and mixed it together to form som utter nonsensical crap with pseudo-philosophical gibberish to top it off.And you just try gun-kata in the army, THEY WILL LAUGH THEIR ASSES OFF!! Rottentomatoes says:This movie could only be stupider if it was longer.I agree completely! By the way the scene witht the puppies was the cheesiest scene ever in motion-picture history. You can't change the facts! CRAP IS CRAP!! |

Isn't it funny...you reinstate the guestbook and before you can say Cleric, the single-celled amoeba types come oozing out of the ether!
I wonder...only briefly since, unlike them, I have a very interesting life in the Real World...have they been secretly lurking, desperately awaiting the return of the guestbook? And do their pitiful little existences now have meaning?

Interesting...
To Mr Rational - there's one thing speaking in your favor: your spelling and punctuation look right ( unlike in the case of other "anti-fans" who haunted this site ). But, as opposed to your nickname, you act in a completely irrational way. If you hate the movie so much then why do you search for an EQ fansite and insult the fans? Or should I say: try to insult.
First: I don't think any of us will be concerned after reading your post. Insults aren't suitable for intelligent men. You claim to be one of them, right? Then try to use some more sophisticated means. Sure, for me as a foreigner it's quite an interesting experience to broaden my English vocabulary, but let's get back to the subject. You say EQ is god-awfully stupid? OK, your opinion. There are better movies out there? Right, there are, no doubt about it. There are lots of stupid movies out there and I've seen quite few of them. But I tend to forget stupid movies. I'm not searching like madman for their fansites and complain, because this is irrational.
To the other guy - I should say pretty much the same ( especially the part about insults ) as above, but why bother. I'll only ask you - why the assumption that EQ fans haven't seen Fahrenheit 451, The Matrix, Metropolis or THX 1138. In fact, except for Metropolis, I've seen all of the above mentioned movies. Speaking of Fahrenheit 451 - I even read the book, on which the movie was based. And 1984 is my favorite book ever.
I'm not the only one here who have seen or read at least some of those works. So, here's one advice: stop bitching.

All I'd say to them would be:
look at imdb.com's poll...18,000 people rated it an average of 7.6 out of 10. And regardless of whether or not they are intelligent and worthy people, or stark raving madmen, they have as much right to enjoy (and rate) a film as you naysayers. In the end, they found it entertaining. So go home and sulk about that.

I've said this before especially on IMDb, I find the mentality of "anti fans" quite fascinating. I fully understand anyone loving a film. I also understand hating one as well but even those that I despise such as ET and Lost in Translation I still realize have a healthy following of people that deeply identify with them even if I do not. I certainly would never flaunt my bias, one sided views of these films on message boards or fansites just because I personally feel enmity towards them. Opinions at their core are irrelevant to anyone but the individual. They are non-issues.
Anti fans are an amusing breed though with as much passion, obsession, & blind rabid bias as fans. It is interesting to uncover what that bias usually is. Often in the case of EQ it is youth, Matrix blindness, and/or a limited knowledge of dystopian fiction (usually those associated with a educational curriculum.)
BTW, I'm sure that all of these posts were made by the same person. As to EQ copying other work. Of course it does. You don't think that we missed that do you?? That's actually one of the main reasons I love this film...I knew the references and I understood them just as I did in The Matrix, Star Wars, & Indiana Jones films. Few filmmakers really use this format of storytelling but it is an age honored one...Shakespeare, Tolkien, The Brothers Grimm, Frank Herber (Dune) and countless others have utilized it. If you have a problem with it that is your problem and your prerogative. I certainly do not.

To Mr. Rational: Go have yourself a nice cup of STFU.
To the other ratbag that posted the following: "Word of advise losers! If you like this useless movie don't actually say it to nobody. It's advice, or is your IQ so low you lost the ability how to spell along with how to form a coherant structured post? It's also scientists, not scientiests?
What the fuck is a scientiest?
A tiny scientist?

Personally, it's the use of the double negative...
Quote:| If you like this useless movie don't actually say it to nobody. |

I am truly humbled by such a devastating display of grammatical superiority. It is a truism of traditional grammar promulgated by grammarians since the Renaissance, that double negatives combine to form an affirmative.
Therefore, you are in fact encouraging us to tell everybody how much we like the film!

I...um...agree!
I really do love his statements about us being stupid. The grammatical/spelling errors in his statements are insanely obvious.
And...

Pretty funny stuff. I try to allow for people with different tastes and styles, I hated some movies that other people loved, no big deal, but to spend time creating an e-mail address and to post in a guestbook on a movie site for a movie I hated? What a bizarre waste of time. And he calls me a retard? Laughable. One thing I would like to say to Mr Worst. Movie. Ever. Sorry I mean Mr equilibrium_sucks_beyond_belief@hotmail.com, It's nice that you have an opinion and all that, and I can understand that you didn't like the movie, we don't all have the same taste. But your lack of knowledge of filmmaking is widely apparent, you have no idea how much talent was involved in EQ. From editing, lighting, shot comp, set design, direction, score, and acting this movie had a ton of things going for it, it may not be your cup of tea and thats fine but your 12 year old insults and arguements, just make you look like an asshole. Also why did it take you this long to rag on a 3 year old movie? Had enough of pissing on ROTS?

I understand everyone speaking about grammatical errors, spelling etc. I LOVE how you are all so polite, but I feel the need to insult him the way he insulted us. I agree with ClericWolf & Stuponfucious. Let's get lowbrow & call this anti fan what he is. Fucking Moron & Retard! BTW, here's an Einstein quote for you:
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
OZ That felt great. I haven't had the need to call someone a retard in a long time.
